Objective of RCIQE
Recent rapid advances of technology are heading toward the so-called ubiquitous network society, as manifested, in explosive growth of mobile telephones, internet, electronic mails and various LANs. These trends toward larger volume and higher throughput of information processing as well as toward more extended and sophisticated use of "wireless" and "optoelectronic" technologies will grow further in future at increased speeds where entirely new electronics is needed. Recent rapid growth of "nanotechnology" covering a wide area of chemistry, biology and MEMS also requires novel electronics in nano-scale.
The mission of the new RCIQE is to establish a novel science and technologies for integrated quantum nanoelectronics based on high density integration of quantum nanodevices, emphasizing III-V compound semiconductors including nitrides. The operation principles of the devices are entirely new, being based directly on the quantum mechanics in which elementary quantum mechanical motions and processes of a single or a few electrons are controlled by arrays of artificial quantum nanostructures.
